“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” ~Albert Einstein
I discovered this quote this week, and I must say Einstein nailed it on the nose. When you base your happiness on other people or things, you’re setting yourself up for failure because things can break and people can let you down. But a goal? That’s different, don’t you think?
What I think of when I see this quotation is this: goals equal improvement. Who doesn’t love that? There is always room for improvement to be our best selves! Even if it takes a while and some steps are backwards… it’s still the efforts and experience that make it all worthwhile. It’s learning, discovering, and striving for something more that makes one happy. Staying stagnant while obtaining objects or friends is fulfilling in the moment, of course… but does it last like a goal does? (Ok, marriage is different but still…) Plus, goals are renewable and can be changed as you go! Sometimes we don’t reach our goals when we expect to, and that’s why it’s okay to change your expectations to get up and try again!
Just some food for thought today… I’m in the middle of midterms. ;)
I wish you all the best of luck in your current goals and objectives with your WeightWatchers journeys, no matter where you are in them!
